Very nice clay pot what is well made. This made me buy a book on Tagine cooking.
I became acquainted with tagine culinary dishes on a trip to Egypt. It was a different experience and taste which can offer a unique and different culinary journey. I bought this pot to experience cooking this cuisine firsthand starting with the cooking process. This Luksyol clay pot meets almost all the checkmarks in a book I bought that discusses the pots, process, and how to cook. You'll notice a black metal heat diffuser that is pentagon shaped sitting on my electric stove. This device is needed for all tagine pots to diffuse the heat, so the pot doesn't crack. Even if it does cracks or chips slightly, the book described how to make a flour paste and repair it. OK, onto a review of the pot.The pot is large and holds a good amount of food. Before using it, I followed the directions on the website to soak it in water for six hours, dry it, put it in the oven for two hours and then coat it in olive oil. That seasons the pot and effectively turns it into a non-stick cooking vessel. I used the Luksyol clay pot to prepare four servings of Chicken and Chickpeas with Apricot and Ras el Hanout. The last component is a Moroccan spice that you can order on Amazon if you don't want to put the spice mixture together yourself. It took about 15 minutes to prep everything before placing it on the diffuser on my electric stove. You have to use low heat. So my setting was 2.5 for 1 hour and 40 minutes and dinner was done. After eating, the pot cleaned up very easily with just hot water and a natural bristle brush. Don't use soap as it will destroy the seasoning. If you use cast iron, think of this pot in the same way when cleaning it. The last thing I did to prepare it for the next use is to give the pot a light wipe down with olive oil and then store it away. The pot lid also gets a wipe down and oiling. The lid fit tightly which is important for Tagine style cooking.

Feels authentic
It's not clear where these are made... the listing simply says, "Europe." It's heavy and feels very authentic, not a knock-off meant to look like a clay tagine. It reminds me of a clay caserole dish my mom got in Germany 60 years ago. The lid sits flat. There is no glaze on the underside of the lid or the bottom of the pot.It came well packaged in a brick of styrofoam. Another reviewer said her lid arrived chipped. so I'll be ginger with mine.NOTE... the pot must be seasoned before use. After that... I'll be careful to treat it like one of my cast iron skillets—no soap, just rinsed well and hand-dried.SEASONING INSTRUCTIONS: "Luksyol Clay cooking pots need to be seasoned before use. Soaked in water for 6 hours minimum. Left to dry for 1 hour. Rubbed with oil (olive or any frying oil). Placed in a cold oven and turned the heat on to 350 F / 175 C for 2 hours and left to get cold. Rubbed with oil again."

Finish on the lid has a crack
I am excited to make my first dish ion this tagine! I still have to season it (soak for 6 hours in water, bake in oven for 2 hours, according to what I found online...). Once that is done, I am ready with multiple recipes to try out. A friend of mine used a tagine to cook many wonderful dishes (mostly Moroccan) and I can't wait to try this out. It's a beautiful clay pot with a lovely black glazed finish. My only complaint is that the handle on the lid has a crack in the finish. It's a small crack, so I have high hopes it won't be an issue. It's definitely got some weight to it and will be plenty big enough for a fair sized meal. I'm excited to give it a try!
