Field Guide to African Wildlife (National Audubon Society)

Excellent safari companion
This book is perfect for the safari for two reasons. Not only is it fairly compact so does not take up much space in your luggage, it is also incredibly comprehensive across a broad spectrum of African wildlife. There is a bountiful section of colour photographs of both birds and animals followed by a reference section with the most detailed background for any creature you are likely to see. The book is also boosted by an early section on the geography and geology of Africa including yet more colour photographs. A highly recommended addition when taking a safari in Africa.

Superb field guide
This really is a superb and helpful field guide to take with you. The identification process is simple and allows quick reference to any animal you are likely to see. In addition the first 150 pages give a good coverage of the African continent and wildlife/wildlife areas by country, even including the Canary Islands. It includes 850 species and gives full details of each with quick reference to the photographs of the species. The quality of the book is absolutely excellent and it will withstand the handling it will undoubtedly receive. Just excellent and simply amazing value for money.

Can I just have a look at your book for a minute !!!
I have now taken this book to Kenya, Tansinia, Botswana and Zambia. It has a great selection bords and mamals (but is lacking on creapy crawlies). When sat round at night other travellers we always borrow the book to check things out over using their own which is a great recommendation. The pictures are clear and good quality. You do have to do a bit of flicking backwards and forwards as the text is at the front and back of the book and colour plates inthe middle, that said it did not detract from my enjoyment of using it.

Great Book
After coming back from a Safari Holiday in Tanzania, I bought this book as a reference guide and a reminder of a great holiday (also our safari guide had the book and we used it quite a lot, mainly for the different varieties of birds we came across). It has plenty of beautiful colour photographs and information. I'm really pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend.

a must for safaris
whether you're an amatuer or a professional, this is the book to have. Just like another reviewer, When i pulled this out of my camera back, our (excellent) guide showed me that its the same one he used. We only went to Tanzania, but this book was continuaously in use and was passed around the vehicle. Must have seen about 50 species and ALL of them were details and photographed in this book. Helps put it all into perspective. Handy section on the regions too.

Amazing guide to the wildlife in Africa
The book provides a very comprehensive guide to wildlife in Africa. During the free time during the safari I've been always reading it and try to associate what I've seen with the excellent description the book provides. It covers the all continents with incredible amount of information (even a full description of footprints!!!). Definitely a must have for going in Africa for a safari.

I saw this book originally when I was on safari in September 2016 when we were seeing lots of animals and especially birds and this book is brilliant at identifying both the animals and birds that we saw and photographed. I didn't hesitate in looking for it when I got home.

Compact but full of animal info
Used this on recent 3-week safari to Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia. Saw many of the animals and birds in this reference. Typically I would read about what I had seen on the morning game drive during afternoon break, and then could remember some of the info on the evening game drive where many of the same animals were seen again. The organization of the book is fine, grouping by region and family of animals. The one improvement would be to have the color photos placed with each text description instead of all grouped together in the middle of the book.Definitely recommend this reference book , even if you only go to a zoo. Maybe it will encourage you to go to the natural environment someday…

African wildlife

Indispensable for an African safari!
Our guide on a recent trip to the Serengeti had an older edition for guests to consult. Putting this 2016 edition under the Christmas tree helps to keep those amazing memories fresh and makes you hope you can do another African safari one day and see different animals and birds, or in a different landscape or season. This guide is very comprehensive and excellent value for money.
